Things to do before putting on a bright lipstick

Swiping a bright shade of lipstick across your lips is one of the easiest ways to jazz up your look. A bright lipstick shade can make so much difference to your look and make you appear fabulous in an instant. You might not even feel the need to apply any other product with a bright shade. It can literally transform your makeup game. While bright lipsticks can work some serious wonders for your look, when not sported correctly, they can also look quite shabby, ruining your entire makeup look. We are sure a lot of women have gone through this thing and felt embarrassed about the same, but it won’t happen again, at least not on our watch.

There are certain rules that are supposed to be followed when wearing a bright shade of lipstick. Failing to follow the commandments might end up in a bright lip disaster. But you can easily prevent this blunder by doing the following things before wearing a bright lipstick.

Exfoliate your lips

Exfoliation is an important step not only in skincare but lip care as well. Wearing a bright lipstick on dry and flaky lips will only accentuate the dryness and flakiness, which can look unsightly. It’s crucial to exfoliate your lips before wearing bright lipsticks. Exfoliation helps in getting rid of dead and dry skin from the surface of your lips, leaving them smoother and softer. If you don’t have a lip scrub at home, you can create one at home using olive oil and brown sugar. Massage the mixture on your lips for about a minute, and then rinse it with water.

Moisturize your lips with a lip balm

Once you are done exfoliating your lips, take your favorite nourishing lip balm and apply it to your lips to offer them moisture. You can use any lip balm of your choice but try using the one that contains nourishing ingredients in order to provide an extra boost of hydration to your lips. If you don’t have a nourishing lip balm, you can use petroleum jelly to moisturize your lips. Also, if you want your lips to look pouty and plump, this is the right time to use a lip plumper.

Create a base

Creating a base is one of the most important things to do when wearing a bright, bold lipstick. One of the only ways to ensure that your lipstick will stand out and stay put throughout the day is by creating a nice base. You can use a lip primer for this job, but if you don’t have a lip primer, then you can use your foundation or concealer to create a base. Apply a thin layer of foundation or concealer across your lips; this will give your lipstick a base to hold onto.

Line your lips

Lining your lips is one of the most important steps in this entire process; you just cannot skip this step. Take a lip liner in a shade that’s the closest to your lipstick. Start lining your lips from the cupid’s bow, make sure to line your natural lip line, overdrawing will only make it seem fake and unnatural. Lining your lips with a lip liner will not only make your lips look pouty and defined but will also minimize the chances of bleeding.

Dust some translucent powder across your lips

The last and final step is to dust some translucent powder across your lips. Lightly press a tissue against your lips, then dust some translucent powder over the tissue using a makeup brush. This won’t only mattify your lipstick but will also make it last longer.
